Who Are We

Bijoyini, one Bengali word, means” woman who attains victory”. We believe that to bring revolutionary change in the status of survivors of human trafficking & commercial sexual exploitation, we can play as central actors to reduce the number of children & young women in situations of trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation. After a long & intense battle against the social norms, we became able to collectivise ourselves & have taken actions & decisions which we meant to be. This courage, the spirit of standing still against all conventional conception for the sake of our own decisions, has made us “Bijoyini”.
In our group, there are 24 members who are the core committee members and who represent the other 98 members of the group who are living & working in 22 blocks of North 24 Parganas for the last 8 years.

Inclusive Growth

We ensure equal opportunities, support systems, and acceptance for all, including gender-diverse individuals.

Inclusive Growth

Our Vision

The vision of Bijoyini is to empower survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation in North 24 Parganas by strengthening their leadership skills and enabling them to play a central role in combating all forms of human trafficking.

The collective aspires to build trafficking- resilient communities by ensuring that essential services are accessible and effectively implemented within the existing government system.

Our Mission

The mission of Bijoyini is to create and protect spaces for leadership, promote financial growth opportunities for underprivileged communities, and strengthen participation and sustainability within the anti-trafficking movement.

Bijoyini strives to ensure that survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and all forms of violence can claim their rights, access justice, and contribute to building an inclusive society where every form of diversity is respected, accepted, and encouraged.

Foundational Values

Our functional values guide every action, decision, and initiative within our collective. They reflect who we are, what we stand for, and the principles that shape our work with the community. These values help us stay grounded, ensure consistency in our approach, and strengthen our commitment to creating meaningful, people-centred change. They serve as the foundation that unites our members and inspires us to move forward with purpose and integrity.

What We Do

Survivor Leadership

Bijoyini members believe survivors are leaders of change and must be at the center of all decisions that affect their lives. Through their lives, they have transformed weakness into strength.

Dignity and Respect

Bijoyini members feel that every individual deserves dignity, regardless of background, identity, or lived experience. And for that, they stand for an inclusive society where diversity (including gender diversity) is accepted, valued, and protected.

Solidarity and Collective Strength

They believe in unity, peer support, and collective action to overcome injustice. And to ensure that they promote leadership, financial independence and informed decision making for everyone so that people in distress can access justice, entitlements, and their fundamental rights.

What we Do

Accountability and Responsibility

Bijoyini members are committed to bringing change in the community rather than blaming others. And for that reason, they always take responsibility for avoidance.

Community Ownership

Bijoyini members believe sustainable change happens when communities are informed, involved, and take ownership. To build informed & resilient communities, Bijoyini members engage the community as the main stakeholders for change.

Thematic Areas

Bijoyini members work across multiple thematic areas to ensure holistic empowerment and long-term change for survivors and vulnerable communities, especially women in general. Their key focus areas include prevention of human trafficking, child protection, and combating gender-based violence, including child marriage and domestic violence. They actively promote survivor leadership, community-based rehabilitation, and access to government entitlements and social protection schemes.
Bijoyini also works on gender diversity and inclusion, supporting gender-variant individuals through awareness-building, community acceptance & system strengthening for the gender diverse individuals. Livelihood and financial inclusion through SHGs, advocacy and policy engagement, peer support, mental well-being, and community awareness are integral parts of their work. Through research, networking, and collective action, Bijoyini strengthens survivor voices and contributes to building safe, informed, and trafficking-resilient communities.
